I have been off for a while due to family circumstances.  My Mother passed away on May 23, 2009 — and April, May, and most of June have been sort of a blur for me.  But, it’s time to move forward and get back to normal things.  So, on that note, I’d like to introduce you to the new and exciting things that are coming out for Campaign 14 2009.

BRAZIL BEAT

Featured on the cover of Campaign 14 is our newest fragrance, Brazil Beat.  This is a wonderful scent for summer.  I received a demo bottle in my Campaign 13 order and I really like it.  It’s a very light scent - so it’s not going to be overpowering when the temperatures rise.  It has a fruity and floral top note with a woodsy base.  It’s very nice.  Plus, in Campaign 14, the price is right at only $9.99 for a 1.7 oz bottle of Eau de Toilette Spray. 

Or, if you like to layer your fragrances, we also offer this fragrance in a body spray, shimmering body lotion, and a shower gel.  I did like this fragrance a lot, however, it does tend to fade pretty quickly.  My husband could still smell it hours later on my skin - but, he had to snuggle up to my neck to smell it.  For those who like a ligher summer fragrance, this would be a good choice.  If you like a heavier or stronger fragrance, I would pass on it.

SPECTRACOLOR LIPSTICK

The next item I’d like to highlight for Campaign 14 is our new Spectracolor Lipstick.  This stuff is really, really cool.  I also have a demo of this.  There are two shades of liquid lipstick inside this tube.  One is light and one is darker.  You have the option of seven different shade settings - from lighter to darker - depending upon which shade you’d like for that moment.  Once you’ve set it to the desired shade, you simply push on the bottom and the blended lipstick comes through little holes in the top of the applicator.

I bought the “The Pinks” shade and I really like it.  It’s a little weird at first because the lipstick goes on very thin - almost like some of those old-style all-day lipcolors that would go on really thin and then dry really weird on your lips.  However, this lipstick never dries and it stays very glossy for a long time.  I like the shade intensity with the different settings, I like the applicator, and the price is good for a top-end lipcolor product at $7.99.  The price will go up to $9.50 in furture campaigns.

If you’re a lipcolor fanatatic (like me), you’ll really flip over this new product.  It gives you both a daytime shade and an evening shade all in one container.  Fantastic idea!

Wow!  Courtney Cox looks fantastic on Avon’s Campaign 8 brochure!  She’s the spokesperson for Avon’s new fragrance called Spotlight (page 5).

The fragrance debuts in Campaign 8 and is very, very nice.  I didn’t think I would like it based on the ingredient list (bergamot, silver accord, freesia, mimosa, vanilla, cashmere and sandalwood).  But, I have to say that this smells like something much more expensive than $22.50.

The only complaint I have about Spotlight isn’t in the product at all - it’s the bottle.  I think the bottle is very plain and uninspiring.  I wish they would have put it in a more elegant bottle befitting it’s wonderful fragrance.

I bought a demo bottle and have been wearing it lately.  People have asked me what I’m wearing and commenting on how nice it it.  So, I think it will become a regular in my fragrance collection.  I love it.

The next product I tried for Campaign 8 (although it actually came out Campaign 6 and I didn’t try it then) is the Magix Face Perfector (page 28).  Reese Witherspoon has been promoting several Avon products, and Magix Face Perfector is one of them.  We all know she’s absolutely gorgeous - so whatever she’s doing is working for her, right?

I was skeptical, though, when another Avon rep was telling me how flawless it made her skin.  She could see my doubt and so she made me try it on the back of my hand.  It is very thick (almost the consistency of that kindergarten paste we used when we were kids (you know, the one some kids ate).

As I smoothed it on my hand, I could visibly see my skin get smoother and the pores disappear.  I was amazed.  This stuff really was great.  So, I put an order in for some for me on my next order.

I’ve been using it on my face all week (which is a better indicator than the back of my hand).  I can honestly say that it does do what Avon claims it will do (”look naturally flawless & banish shine up to 10 hours”).  My skin stays matte all day long and it has visibly reduced my pores significantly.  I love this stuff and I hope Avon never stops making it.

Next on my list was the new Cuticle Balm.  This is new for Campaign 8 (page 33).  I was at a table with three other ladies and I took the lid off the little tin.  The smell was so nice that before I knew it all the ladies had snatched it away from me and were using it.  It smells heavenly - like lavendar and citrus.

I’ve used it a few times this week and I can tell a difference in my cuticles and nails already.

I have one complaint about it though.  Like the Spotlight - I don’t like the container.  This isn’t for asthetic reasons (as with the Spotlight).  This is for purely practical ones.  This little tin has a lid that will tear up your nails getting off.  I love this product, but I broke a nail getting the tin open.  I think if you twist it off slowly (rather than trying to pry it off with a nail under the lid) it might work better.  The other ladies didn’t have any trouble with the lid.  I have some carpal tunnel issues with my hands and wrists, so perhaps that’s why it was more difficult for me.  Otherwise - a really good product.

If you’re looking for a quality men’s fragrance set, look no further than Avon’s new fragrance “Signature” debuting in Campaign 8 (page 51).  I bought a demo of the after shave conditioner and it’s one of their best men’s fragrances in a long time.  I like it because it smells sophisticated and masculine.  It’s something I would love my husband to wear.

The top notes are green apple and grapefruit, the mid notes are bamboo and ginger, and the base notes are patchouli, white cedar and teakwood. 

At a price of only $17.50 for the Eau de Toilette Spray, it’s a great value for a high quality men’s fragrance.

Campaign 8 has a special promotion that offers the Signature Roll-on Anti-Perspirant Deodorant, After Shave Conditioner, and the Eau de Toilette Spray for $20 for all three.  If you have any men in your life with an April or May birthday, this would be a really nice gift set - without breaking the bank!

All the Liiv Botanicals products are also on special for Campaign 8 (pages 76-77).  For the first time every, you can buy one and get one for $1.99.  This is such a great deal.  I’ve tried the Sensuality fragrance and it’s really unique.  I love the way the plant essences give it like a peppery, spicy scent. 

Although I really love the way it smells, the fragrance doesn’t last  on me.  I bought a bottle as a demo, and I used it every day for a couple of weeks. 

I got a lot of compliments on it, but I always felt it was a little too light.  I did layer it with the Moisture Boosting Body Butter underneath and it lasted longer.

One of the nice things about the Liiv Botanicals is that they work for all skin types and are clinically and dermatologically tested and preservative free.

Okay, now for the best part of Campaign 8 - their new Anew Clinical Derma-Full X3 Facial Filling Serum (now, that’s a mouthful, huh?) on page 87.  This is one of Avon’s higher end skin care products at $54.  I bought some of this during Campaign 7 and I’ve been using it for the past week or so.  I love the way it feels when I put it on.

It’s to be used at night after you cleanse your face.  I put it on over my night moisturizer.  I’ve been using the Solutions 2-in-1 cleansers and moisturizers  (in the orange containers) and I like them a lot.  Anyway, back to the Derma-Full serum - it is very smooth and feels like silk.  I did get it pretty close to my eye area and it didn’t burn my eyes at all.  It wasn’t sticky or oily feeling.  I liked how it felt and it had a pleasant, light fragrance.

I haven’t been using this for very long, so it’s hard to tell yet how well it works.  But, in the week I’ve been using it, I can tell a difference in my skin.  It does feel smoother to me.  I’ll post again once I’ve been using it a while longer to let you know if my face feels fuller in the cheek area (the main claim for the product).

If you would like to have fuller cheeks, but are also dealing with jowls, Avon is also offering a new Derma-Full Facial Filling Cream, rather than the serum, for $34.  The serum has 3 times the amount of hyaluronic acid as the cream.  I haven’t used the cream, so I don’t know how it compares to the serum.  If you use it, I’d love for you to comment here about your experience.

Money is tight for most of us.  So, how can we buy anything extra right now?

When we eliminate things from our budget due to finances (like out-of-state vacations, a new car purchase, department store cosmetics and perfumes, etc.), we need to replace them with something else.  What?  Well, for starters, we need to replace them with less expensive things to help us deal with the stress of a tough economy.

It’s important that while we’re pinching our pennies and keeping an eye on where our money’s going that we don’t start to let ourselves feel poor.  Feeling poor causes stress and can even lead to hopelessness and depression.  So, we need to do things for ourselves to stave off those feelings and keep us feeling good.
